Mysore/Mysuru: Director of NIE-CREST S. Shamsundar has observed that “The country can become self-reliant by encouraging the production and utilisation of biofuel, as in the current scenario the country is importing 80 percent of crude oil.”
“By encouraging the utilisation of biofuel, we can bring down the gamut of importing crude oil, besides controlling the temperature levels. Mysuru City alone produces 400 tonnes of garbage per day, with 80% of the garbage being wet waste. Wet waste can be used for producing biofuel, with NIE-CREST having the required technology,” he added.
When Rudolph Diesel, a German Scientist, invented automobile engine, he first experimented with biofuel. Hence, the first engine moved with biofuel. Following the finding of oil reserves, the engines were modified to run on petrol and diesel, said Shamsundar.
