Dr. K.S. Ravindranath at Cardio Yoga Summit – 2025
Mysore/Mysuru: Bengaluru’s Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICSR) Director Dr. K.S. Ravindranath observed that with alarming rise in the number of heart patients, the medical fraternity too is under pressure.
He was virtually addressing the Cardio Yoga Summit 2025 ‘Cardio Yoga Summit 2025 – Healing Diabetes Through Yogic Integration’ organised by the Department of AYUSH, Government of Karnataka, Government Ayurveda Research Centre (GARC), Mysuru, in association with SJICSR, Mysuru, at Jayadeva Hospital on KRS Road in city yesterday.
Stressing on the need for everyone to follow a healthy lifestyle, Dr. Ravindranath said that increasing levels of diabetes, obesity, mental stress and cholesterol are the main reasons for rise in heart ailments. Air pollution has only compounded the problem, he added.
Maintaining that a person can be healthy only if he/ she is physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually strong, he said that as many as 30 crore people around the world are practising yoga daily. Asserting that Yoga is an art that blends the body and the mind, he said that Yoga has a long history running up to centuries. Yoga also makes one mentally and physically strong, he added.
He further said that though diabetes, heart disease and Blood Pressure (BP) are heredity and genetic in nature, such ailments are affecting youth and non-history population too because of changing lifestyles.
Former University of Mysore and KSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangappa said that 7.7 crore people of the country’s population are affected by diabetes. As such, there is an urgent need for practising Yoga and changing our lifestyle, he argued.
New Delhi’s Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN) Director Dr. Raghavendra Rao said that according to a study, 11.38 percent of the country’s population are aware of the benefits of Yoga and 5.42 crore people are practising Yoga daily. The Council had carried out a nationwide survey last month, according to which many people are found suffering from various diseases, he said adding that the Council is creating widespread awareness on the health benefits of practising Yoga.

Shenoy, Bengaluru’s Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) Research Officer Dr. M.N. Shubhashree, Dr. Tejeswini Deepak, Dr. Anthony Paul Raj, Dr. Rajesh and others were present.
