Drugs Update requires a paradigm shift, opines Dr. B. Gurubasavaraja

Mysore/Mysuru: JSS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru, in association with Sri Sri Tattva, Bengaluru, had organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) on ‘Drugs Update’ at the Seminar Hall of the College in city yesterday.

Dr. B. Gurubasavaraja, a renowned Ayurveda Physician and former Professor at JSS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, delivered a keynote address. He underlined the need for a paradigm shift in the approach to Drugs Update.

He explained how the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) since 1995 have initiated a significant transformation in the drug industry, ushering in a new era for Ayurveda drug manufacturing.

Highlighting the entry of multinational companies into the Ayurveda drug market, he stressed the necessity for unconventional drugs to manage lifestyle disorders and combat increasing drug resistance. Dr. Gurubasavaraja called for extensive research and revalidation, stressing the importance of incorporating herbal and other drugs into modern medical practice.

The CME was inaugurated by Arvind Varchaswi, Managing Director of Sri Sri Tattva. In his inaugural address, he underscored the importance of innovation in the industry while                                      preserving ancient heritage and holistic approaches.

He emphasised the need for purity in raw drugs and their final products to elevate Ayurveda’s global standing. He also advocated for the adoption of Ayurvedic principles in food habits, yoga, and meditation to prevent lifestyle disorders.

Dr. Sarbeswar Kar, Principal of JSS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of the Drugs Update programme in raising awareness about innovative products among practitioners and budding doctors.

Resource person Dr. Shashi Bhushan, Scientific Head at Sri Sri Tattva, shared insights on recent innovations in R&D related to Drugs Update. Over 250 delegates, including teaching faculties, consultants from various specialities, PG scholars, and interns, benefited from this knowledge session.

Dr. R.R. Bellary, Senior General Manager at Sri Sri Tattva, moderated the CME programme, while Dr. M.D. Beena, the Post-graduate Coordinator, proposed a vote of thanks.
