Dy.CM lays foundation for new hostel, lecture halls at MMC&RI

Mysuru: Deputy Chief Minister Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan, who is also the Medical Education Minister, laid the foundation stone for the construction of new Library and Hotel buildings at Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) premises here recently.

Later, taking part in the stage programme at the MMC&RI Platinum Jubilee Hall at J.K. Grounds, Dr. Ashwath Narayan said that the new buildings will come up at a cost of Rs.70 crore and the buildings include lecture and examination halls, library and a hostel.

Stating that MMC&RI is among the top Medical Colleges in the State, he said that the Mysore Medical College and K.R. Hospital were the brainchild of Mysore Maharajas.

Pointing out that the MMC&RI will celebrate its 100th year in 2024, Dr. Ashwath Narayan said that efforts will be made to improve the facilities in K.R. Hospital. Noting that there are ample opportunities for Medical graduates, the Dy.CM said that measures will also be taken for improving the facilities in Nursing Hostel.

MLA L. Nagendra, in his speech, said that the previous Government was submitted a proposal for K.R. Hospital, Medical College and Hostel infrastructure improvement, costing about Rs.397 crore. Now, the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of new buildings has been performed and the BJP Government will address the issues concerning Health and Family Welfare Department.

Stressing on the need for improving the K.R. Hospital set up by the Erstwhile Mysore Maharajas, Nagendra said that K.R. Hospital is getting overcrowded with each passing day as patients from surrounding districts visit the hospital for health care.

The MLA appealed he Dy.CM to address all issues concerning K.R. Hospital, which is the most prominent hospital in Mysuru region. MMC&RI Teaching faculty and Non-teaching Faculty Association submitted a memorandum to the Dy.CM seeking fulfilment of their demands.

Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hematha Kumar, MMC&RI Dean & Director Dr. C.P. Nanjaraj, Principal Dr. Dakshangiri, Corporator C. Ramesh and others were present.
