Election for South Teachers Constituency Legislative Council seat tomorrow

9 candidates in fray; Counting of votes on June 12

Mysuru: The election to the Legislative Council seat from South Teachers Constituency, covering the districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan, will take place from 7 am to 5 pm tomorrow.

Also, across Karnataka, the election for Legislative Council seats from South-West Teachers, South-East Teachers, North-East Graduates, South-West Graduates and Bangalore Graduates Constituencies will be held tomorrow. The counting of votes will be taken up on June 12 and the results will be declared the same day after the counting of all the rounds.

The voting will be through ballot papers and the voters are required to cast their preferential votes against the name of the candidate of their choice by marking 1, 2, 3 etc., in the order of their preference.

Polling Centres in city

There are a total of 10 Polling Centres in city. 1. Sri Kalanikethana School of Arts, Vijayanagar II Stage; 2. Mysuru West Lions Sevaniketana School, Gokulam; 3. Government Model Higher Primary School, MCC Building, Rajendranagar; 4. St. Philomena Lower Primary Girls School, Church Compound, B.N. Road; 5. Vidyavardhaka High School, Seshadri Iyer Road; 6. GSS Nursery and Primary School, Siddarthanagar; 7. Government Higher Primary School, 6th Cross, Krishnamurthypuram; 8. Sri Kaginele Mahasamsthana Kanaka Gurupeetha College of Education, Adichunchanagiri Road, Kuvempunagar; 9. St. Mary’s Higher Primary School, Ramanuja Road; 10. Govt. Women’s PU College, People’s Park, Nazarbad.

The other Polling Centres in the district are Mini Vidhana Soudha in Periyapatna Town; Mini Vidhana Soudha, K.R. Nagar; Taluk Office, Hunsur; Court Hall (Room No. 2) Mini Vidhana Soudha, H.D. Kote; Taluk Office, Nanjangud and Taluk Office, T. Narasipur.

Nine in fray

There are a total of nine candidates in fray. While Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Marithibbegowda is contesting as JD(S) candidate, the BJP has fielded B. Niranjanmurthy and the Congress M. Lakshmana.

Also in the fray are six independents — Dr. S.B.M. Prasanna, A.H. Gopalakrishna, K. Tulasappa, Dr. Mahadev, M.N. Ravishankar and  P.A. Sharath Raj.

The Constituency has just a little over 20,600 voters who can exercise their franchise to elect their representative in the Legislative Council.
