Apropos the news item No Mask Pay Fine (SOM dated July 6), just imposing a fine on people not wearing a mask while stepping out of their homes is not enough. Many people do not even know how to wear a mask in the proper manner. A mask should cover both the nose and the mouth completely and leave space only for the eyes. Many people seem to care less about wearing a mask in the proper manner it should be worn.

Some people are even found moving around with the mask around their neck ! These people do not seem to know anything about social distancing too while at public places such as markets, malls, banks and shops and are often found crowding around throwing caution to the wind.

It is such careless attitude by these people which is the main cause for a spurt in positive cases of COVID-19. Strict enforcement of social distancing also needs to be carried out by the authorities concerned, besides imposing hefty fines for those not wearing a mask while stepping out of their homes.
