Father ends life hearing about son’s suicide

October 30, 2017

Kollegal: Man’s relationship with man works at different levels. The bonding between mother-daughter, brother-sister, father-daughter are all very unique and special. One more bonding that is equally unique is the father-son relationship. But, strange are the ways that destiny works and even such sacred relationships can go horribly wrong and even end in tragedies.

One such heart-rending incident occurred here yesterday (Oct. 29) at Mudigunda village, where a father on hearing about his son’s death, went and ended his life. The unfortunate victim is Lakki Madeva (58), who on hearing about his son Ranjit’s (23) suicide also committed suicide the same night plunging the family members in grief.

Lakki Madeva and wife Lakshmi alias Putty had two sons. The elder one had passed away and Lakki had showered all his love and affection on the younger son Ranjit. This boy was intelligent and was pursuing his higher education, fulfilling the wishes of his father, doing MBA, at Manasagangothri. He was staying in a Government Hostel.

However, Ranjit did not enjoy good health. He had a lump on his neck, which the doctors had told him that it could be removed. But, he went into a depression and ended his life on Oct. 28 in Mysuru.  His father who was in Mudigunda was informed about his son’s death. Having already lost the elder son, Lakki was unable to come to terms with the death of his second son.

Completely upset, he disappeared from the house the same night (Oct. 28). The family members were completely shaken by this turn of events. Lakki’s body was found the next day. He had consumed poison and ended his life.

Lakshmi was left alone facing the twin tragedy. Star of Mysore’s efforts to talk to the family members went in vain as they refused to talk to the media telling that they were too overcome by the grief.

The funeral of father and son was held yesterday at Mudigunda.
