DIGP (Southern Range) Dr. M.B. Boralingaiah advised the personnel to work towards taking serious cases to their logical end and ensure punishment for criminals to retain the faith of public in Police Department.
He was addressing the gathering of Policemen after distributing prizes to the winners of various competitions organised as part of the valedictory of fifth Mysuru Zonal-level Police Kartavya Koota (Duty Meet), at Karnataka Police Academy (KPA) auditorium here on Sunday.
The DIGP said, “In criminal justice delivery system, First Information Report (FIR) should be filed, followed by investigation and submission of charge-sheet to the Court. The case will reach its logical end, when the accused is punished after trial at the Court. However, the rate of conviction is less. Even though the conviction rate is in the range of 15-20 percent, majority of them are related to minor cases, with conviction only in three percent of heinous cases. Hence, to retain the faith of public in the Police, we have to take the cases to their logical end. To achieve this, we have to be well-equipped in all the scientific aspects related to investigating the cases. Whatever we learn should be put to use completely during the stage of probe. If we develop the skills, the opportunities are aplenty to work in Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Special Protection Group (SPG) and several other wings.”
As many as 150 Police personnel including Officers from Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar Districts, Mysuru City, Police Training School (PTS), Karnataka Police Academy (KPA), KSRP Fifth Battalion from Mysuru and 11th Battalion from Hassan, took part in the two-day Kartavya Koota. In all, 11 sniffer dogs from all the units had also taken part in the events.
A total of 51 medals were distributed to the winners of 19 various competitions related to aiding investigation methods. It included 20 each of Gold and Silver medals and 11 Bronze medals.
