Girl arrested for stealing gold jewellery from her friend’s house

Ornaments worth Rs. 4.15 lakh recovered

Mysore/Mysuru: Metagalli Police have arrested a 21-year-old girl on charges of stealing gold jewellery from her friend’s house and have recovered gold ornaments worth Rs. 4.15 lakh from her. The arrested girl is Ashritha, a resident of Subashnagar in Kumbarakoppal.

Details: On Aug. 23, one Ramesh, a resident of Subashnagar in Kumbarakoppal had fixed the engagement of his daughter at his house and had invited relatives and friends to the ceremony. As Ashritha was the friend of his (Ramesh) daughter, she too had come for the engagement ceremony.

After the ceremony concluded, Ramesh’s daughter removed her gold jewellery and placed it in the almirah. When the guests left the place, the family members opened the almirah only to see the gold ornaments missing and immediately lodged a complaint at Metagalli Police Station.

Metagalli Police, who had registered a case, began their investigation and on  Aug. 25, took Arshitha into custody for enquiry. 

During interrogation, Arshitha is said to have confessed of stealing the gold ornaments and hiding it in her house. Based on the information provided by the accused, the Police have recovered two gold necklaces weighing 85 grams and a pair of gold earrings worth Rs. 4.15 lakh from her house.

DCP Geetha Prasanna and NR Sub-Division ACP Shivashankar supervised Metagalli Inspector A. Mallesh, Sub-Inspector Vishwanath, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ponnappa and staff Lingarajappa, Diwakar, Krishna and  Asha in the nabbing and recovery operation, according to a press release from the PRO, City Police Commissioner’s Office, Mysuru.
