Mysuru: As part of Gokulashtami, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and Sri Krishna Seva Samithi Charitable Trust, in association with Kannada and Culture Department, have jointly arranged a two-day music programme at Alwar Kalabhavan in Gokulam 3rd Stage, on Sept. 15 and 16 at 6 pm.
On Sept.15, Vidu. Arundathi Krishnan will present a vocal recital accompanied by Vid. H.K. Narasimha Murthy on violin, Vid. P.S. Sridhar on mridanga and Vid. S. Manjunath on ghata.
On Sept. 16, there will be a flute recital by Vid. T.R. Srinath accompanied by Vid. C.N. Thyagarajan on violin, Vid. A. Radhesh on mridanga and Vid. M.R. Manjunath on ghata.
Artistes’ Profile
Arundathi Krishnan has been learning Karnatak vocal music from the age of seven. She gave her first public performance and won her first concert prize at the Rama Navami celebrations in Fort High School, Bengaluru, when she was 13. She is undergoing advanced training in manodharma, pallavi singing and other nuances from her aunt Deva Gana Varshini Soundaram Krishnan, AIR ‘A’ Grade artiste, Chennai, and has been under her tutelage for over 14 years.
Arundathi is pursuing Ph.D in Mathematics at IIT Madras. She has completed a Senior Diploma in Karnatak Music and a Junior Diploma in Hindustani Music.
She was also mentored by Sangeetha Kala Acharya Prof. T.R. Subramaniam who happened to be her Guru’s guiding force. She is the grand niece of Sangeetha Kala Acharya Prof. N.S. Jayalakshmi, a reputed dance Guru, and granddaughter of late N.S. Jagannathan (former Editor, Indian Express and Financial Express). Arundathi is currently a ‘B’ high grade artiste of All India Radio, Bengaluru.
Vidwan T.R. Srinath: Born into a music-loving family, Gana Kalashree T.R. Srinath was initiated into flute-playing at a tender age of eight under the tutelage of Vid. A.V. Prakash of Mysuru under whom he mastered various nuances of flute-playing for more than a decade.
He later learnt under late Vid. B.N. Suresh and late Vid. Dindugal S.P. Natarajan, both flautists of repute. Apart from getting lots of prizes and awards in his school and college days, he bagged the coveted 1st Prize in AIR Music competitions held in 1976 and was straight-away graded ‘B-High.’ He is presently an ‘A’ Grade artiste of AIR.
He is included in the panel of artistes recognised by ICCR, New Delhi; has featured in several AIR Sangeeth Sammelans and National programmes in AIR/ TV. He was a member of Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy during 1995-98. He has also served as Hon. Secretary of Karnataka Ganakala Parishat, Bengaluru. He was conferred the title ‘Ganakalashree’ by Karnataka Ganakala Parishat in 1998 and ‘Kaladeepthi’ by Sri Thyagaraja Gana Sabha, Mysuru, during February 2012.
