Develop skills to suit present day job needs: UoM Registrar M.K. Savitha
Mysuru: A total of 239 students of 2023-25 batch from St. Philomena’s College received Post Graduation degrees in Arts, Science and Commerce, during the Graduation Day celebrations held recently.
M.K. Savitha, Registrar (Administration), University of Mysore (UoM), who delivered the Graduation Day address, said that while degrees hold significance, skills are indispensable. In today’s fast-evolving global economy, degrees alone no longer serve as a passport to success. Employers and entrepreneurial ecosystems now seek individuals capable of critical communication, effective problem-solving, time management and collaborative work in a digital environment.
Stating that graduation is not an end but a new beginning, she emphasised that the ceremony is more than just a celebration of academic success. It signifies the start of professional life, personal development and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Continuing, Savitha added, whether one aims to enter the corporate world or launch their own startup, skills will be their true capital. The most essential among these is communication and the ability to articulate ideas clearly. Even with vast knowledge, one cannot convey its depth without strong communication skills.
She urged students to be good human beings, to imbibe culture and to not just survive with education but to build their skills alongside their degrees.
Presiding over the event, Rev. Lourdu Prasad stated, motivation must stem from within to bring about societal change. He stressed that having a clear vision is key to achieving success and attaining a true sense of fulfilment.
Rev. Fr. Jnana Pragasam, Campus Administrator, Rev. Fr. S. David Sagayaraj, Assistant to the Rector, Dr. Ravi J.D. Saldanha, Principal, Ronald Prakash Cutinha, Vice-Principal (Administration), Nagaraj Urs, Vice-Principal (Academics), Dr. Noor Mubasheer, Coordinator, PG Studies Research Centre, (Academics), Thomas Gunaseelan, IQAC Coordinator and others were present.
