‘Grounding prevents electrical mishaps’

January 10, 2025

Mysuru: Karnataka Power Engineers Academy’s Technical Journal Committee President U.S. Naik said that Earthing and Grounding are two key elements of power installations which safeguard the power systems from mishaps and other dangers.

He was speaking at a programme organised by Karnataka Power Engineers Academy (KPEA) at a private hotel here on Tuesday for the release of the books ‘Electrical Earthing’  authored by M.L. Sheshadri, ‘Matte Matte Male,’ a poetry collection by Hemanth Lingappa and ‘Technical Journal’ brought out by the Academy.

Maintaining that grounding is a must for ensuring that electrical systems are safe, Naik said that this will safeguard the systems from electrical accidents, fire  and damages due to various factors.

Asserting that life is becoming increasingly inactive because of the excessive use of mobile phones, Naik stressed on the need for developing writing habits.

“ Apart from their daily chores and life, every person should try to know about the outside world and read books as it would help in enhancing our knowledge,” he said adding that the strengthening of an organisation or association is the responsibility of every person which he/she belongs to.

CESC Managing Director G. Sheela said that apart from reading these books, their purpose would be served more if the contents of the books are  implemented  practically. Noting that the staff working at KPTCL stations do not have all the necessary technical information, she stressed on the need for imparting technical training on these matters.

KPEA President and CESC Technical Director K.M. Munigopal Raju in his address, said that the book contains a concise explanation about the technical aspects of Earthing. Asserting that Earthing is a very key issue in all power matters, he said that the book is useful for electric supply companies in other States too.

Observing that technical expertise seems to be less in the current situation, he expressed disappointment that job satisfaction among staff is becoming increasingly lesser these days.

KPEA Secretary M.H. Jagadish, Treasurer M.G. Halaswamy, Joint Secretary C. Dhananjaya, KPTCL Mysuru Zone SEE Rangaraju, Committee members B.C. Palanetra, M. Suresh, M.L.  Rajojirao, P.R.
