Health hazard in Gokulam 3rd Stage

September 7, 2020

Sir,

There is a vacant site measuring a few acres in Gokulam 3rd Stage behind the recently built amphitheatre and 4th Main Road lying vacant since the Layout was formed 50 years ago.

Apart from some wild vegetation which has grown there, it has become a ‘Dumping Yard’ of the Mysuru City Corporation and other vehicles for the garbage, particularly the dry wastes like plastic materials.

Frequently in an attempt to dispose of it, they put fire which emanates clouds of foul smelling and toxic smoke engulfing the surrounding houses. Whenever this happens, we have to call the area Corporator S.B.M. Manju. We should appreciate him for taking prompt and immediate action every time.

Worst happened on the evening of Aug.29 when a large area was burning. Manju had to call the Fire Brigade to douse the fire as seen in the picture. They could not do it completely as the smoke was still emanating the next morning also.

This issue of health hazard has been brought to the notice of the Corporation authorities earlier also (on 1.8.2019). This being the COVID time, the citizens, particularly the seniors, are affected badly.

May I request the present MCC Commissioner to step in and take necessary action to stop dumping the garbage in the area mentioned and prevent the health hazard.

– Dr. C.G. Narasimhan, Gokulam, 30.8.2020
