Hunsur Road near Jaladarshini to be straightened

October 11, 2017

Mysuru: The road that curves near Jaladarshini Guest House adjacent to Kukkarahalli Lake on Hunsur Road is a killer road, as it has claimed many lives in the past. This road will be widened and straightened now, said District in-Charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa.

He was speaking after holding a meeting with officials of various Departments on Monday at the Jaladarshini Guest House and said that the road from Kalamandira till the turn near Kukkarahalli Lake is very narrow, which has resulted in many accidents. “This was brought to my notice from MLA Vasu. I have taken note of this very seriously and along with widening the road, the curve will be straightened and it will be converted to a straight stretch,” he said.

This issue was also discussed in the Government and after its approval, Rs. 12 crore has been earmarked for the project. The foundation stone will be laid on Oct. 12, he said.

Land is required to widen and straighten the road. Hence, discussions will be held with the officials of the Forest Department, University of Mysore (UoM) and Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), as the lands running through belong to all these Departments. They will be asked to provide the necessary approvals and once it is given, the foundation for the work will be laid on Oct.12, said Dr. Mahadevappa.

A very welcome decision, the unscientific method of placing baricades was not at all useful. Instead they them self where creating more accidents and bottle neck on the stretch of that road.

  2. Arun S Padaki says:

Bit by bit, every piece of Mysore will be destroyed by politicians and contractors. Most Mysoreans disrespect traffic signals, everyone thinks he can turn left even when vehicles are crossing at 60-80 kmph speed. People have no discipline while driving at curves. Till we have disciplined drivers accidents will happen, even if it is a straight road. Fix road humps for now so that the speed is cut down.

  3. Informed says:

12cr is to loot and to fund their forthcoming election. This curve just requires slight expansion on the left and right and no need to change the center separator. If they relay the entire road, 12cr is a super kill. But well, they can always spend 12cr for a 1cr project and still get applaud from people who care less about the tax money wasted. Now, lets get ready for hellish potholish ride in that segment of the road for next 1yr.

  4. Vaivaswatha N says:

Unscientific decision. Any good civil engineer should be able to see that all the road requires is proper banking, i.e., a slope against the turn. This is a concept that even high school students will know about and our engineers don’t !
