Mysore/Mysuru: Former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of University of Mysore (UoM) Prof. K.S. Rangappa has said: “Unlike other countries in the world, India comparatively stands in a good position in Intelligent Quotient (IQ).”

He was speaking at a workshop on capacity development,  organised at Maharani’s Women’s Commerce and Management College in Paduvarahalli here recently.

“In most of the countries, Indian origin scientists are more in numbers. If a country should be popular, the achievements of scientists and engineers add more value to its popularity. It is very much essential to acquire the skills in this globally competitive era. Those having abundant potential will be having the capacity to shape their future in any part of the world. Nowadays, we can come up in life by thinking at global level,” said Prof. Rangappa.

As English is an internationally recognised language, many people prefer to learn the language. There is no discrimination for learning as in the present days, English is being taught from primary level itself, which is a good sign. It may help in producing more number of achievers in the future, felt Prof. Rangappa.

Most of the Nobel Prize winners have faced trouble due to language, but language did not come in their way of achievement. They have achieved amid several hurdles and the younger generation should accept such achievers as a model. Students should learn computer along with English. With the Government spending more on women’s education, they should make use of the facility and find job, suggested Prof. Rangappa.

Prof. S.N. Hegde, also a former VC of UoM, said: “If one develops skills along with studies, nobody will remain unemployed. Many companies are investing here creating more job opportunities. Hence students must give impetus to skill education.”

Principal of Maharani’s College Prof. Somanna, former KSOU VC S.N. Ramegowda, Prof. S. Srikantaswamy, wellness and food expert Nandini Murthy were present.
