Chamarajanagar:  Various organisations have voluntarily called for Chamarajanagar Bandh on July 15, demanding the compensation of Rs. 25 lakh and a Government job, for the family members of those who lost their lives in Oxygen Tragedy in May 2021 at the District Hospital.

C.M. Krishnamurthy, the leader of Progressive Organisations Federation, took part in the meeting held at Tourists Bungalow here yesterday and expressed his regret over how the Government has been carapace in its functioning, without taking any action against those guilty of the tragedy.

Social Democratic Party of India (SPDI) State Secretary Abrar Ahmed said that the party convention, organised to oppose amended Waqf Act held on Saturday, also decided to mobilise support demanding justice for Oxygen Tragedy victims.

In response, the heads of various Masjids have pledged their support for the cause, along with District Federation of Muslims.

Nija Dhwani Govindraju suggested to make an appeal seeking the support of merchants, bus owners, autorickshaw operators, lorry owners, road side vendors and others, for the bandh call.

District Sugarcane Growers Association President Halina Nagaraju, People’s Union For Civil Liberty (PUCL) President Punajanur Doreswamy, Councillor Mohammed Amiq, leaders Arakalavadi Nagendra, Nammane Prashanth and Suresh Vajpayee, journalists A D’Silva, Doddinduvadi Siddaraju and Belliyappa, Oxygen tragedy survivors Savitha and Nagarathna were present.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag has assured to facilitate a meeting with District in-Charge Minister K. Venkatesh, who is expected to visit the district on July 3.

“Let us attend the meeting and discuss the issue, but won’t refrain from going ahead with the decision of bandh call to garner the attention of the Government,” the leaders decided at the meeting.
