Instead of Golden Chariot, why not a Golden Tower for Goddess Chamundeshwari at Hill Temple?

November 26, 2024

Sir,

This refers to the news item Golden Chariot proposal for Chamundi Hill Temple revived in yesterday’s Star of Mysore. The report says a 5-year-old proposal (of 2019) to provide a Golden Chariot for Sri Chamundeshwari Temple atop the Chamundi Hill has been revived at a recently held meeting. The Chariot is going to cost over Rs. 7 crore, according to reports.

The Chariot is used hardly two or three times in a year and then parked inside the shelter covered from public view. In the given situation where gold worth Rs. 7 crore is only periodically seen by the public, it is suggested that instead of a Golden Chariot, the authorities might well consider using the same amount of gold for gilding the majestic and imposing temple tower which is visible from all directions of the city and from a long distance.

When the tower is lit with floodlights in the night, its beauty will indeed be divine and a feast to the eyes of all those who see it. Who knows, Goddess Chamundeshwari Herself being a female deity, would be thrilled to have a jewel of this kind to exhibit her glory.

In the world we have many examples of domes and towers of mosques, gurudwaras and temples being gold-plated like for example the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Dome of the Rock, a mosque in Jerusalem, Sri Lakshmi Narayani Golden Temple in Vellore, Sri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and many more. Let the Goddess Chamundeshwari Temple tower also be one among these great places of worship with a golden glory.
