Mysuru: The Department of Chemistry, JSS Science and Technology University (JSS S&TU) had organised a one-day International Symposium on Advanced Materials (ISAM-2017) on Dec.27. The symposium was organised with the objective of providing a forum for researchers, scientists, professionals and industry personal to showcase the emerging trends in advanced material research.
Over 200 participants came from different parts of the country and aboard to present their research work in the symposium. The symposium enriched the young minds and motivated them to take up research.
The symposium was inaugurated by chief guest Dr. K.N. Thimmaiah, Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of Mississippi, USA and presided by Dr. K.S. Lokesh, Registrar, JSS S&TU, Mysuru.
The keynote talk was delivered by Dr. Dinesh Shetty, Senior Scientist, New York University, Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), on the topic ‘From Organic Chemistry to an Interdisciplinary Science: A Fruitful Journey’ and he motivated the young minds towards their goals.
Dr. T.N. Nagabushana, Principal, SJCE, JSS S&TU, Mysuru, gave the welcome address. Dr. P. Mallu, Professor, Department of Chemistry, was the Organising Secretary of the symposium who gave a brief introduction about the symposium. The invited research talks delivered by the speakers Dr. Arun Kumar, Senior Scientist, Food Packing Department, CFTRI, Mysuru, Dr. Kalappa Prashantha, Professor, IMT Lille-Douai, Douai, France and Dr. K.N. Thimmaiah, Prof. of Chemistry, University of Mississippi. The speakers talked on diverse topics, various issues and challenges faced in Materials research. They stressed the need for the development of advanced non-material, shape memory polymers, cancer treatment and biomedical materials for futuristic applications. Oral presentations were delivered by ten researchers and posters were presented by 44 researchers.
The symposium concluded with the valedictory function presided by Dr. B.G. Sangameshwara, Vice-Chancellor, JSS S&TU, Mysuru. Dr. Shakeeb Ur Rahman, was the chief guest during the programme. A students club named ‘CHEM HUB’ was inaugurated during the valedictory programme by the Vice-Chancellor.
