Mysuru: “In the 1990s everything was knowledge-based but the whole way of looking at things changed with the arrival of www,” said former Director of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and distinguished scientist Prof. Shankar K. Paul.
He was speaking after inaugurating a two-day international conference titled ‘Data Analytics and Learning-2018’ (DAL-2018) jointly organised by Department of Studies in Computer Science, Computer Science Alumni Association and University with Potential for Excellence at the Vijnan Bhavan in Manasagangothri campus, here this morning.
“There was a tsunami of big data especially after 2010 with the arrival of smart computers and mobile phones and what is most important is to see that such a huge amount of data is converted into knowledge,” said the Padma Shri awardee.
IIIT Allahabad Director Prof. C. Nagabushan released the digital proceedings of the conference. Computer Science Department’s Prof.G. Hemanth Kumar who has been recommended for Prime Minister’s award was felicitated on the occasion.
Resource person Dr.D.H.Shekar said that out of 100 papers received 45 papers were selected to be presented at the two-day conference.
Nearly 80 delegates including international ones from China, Tanzania, Iran and Iraq and from different parts of the country are participating in the DAL-2018.
