April 10, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: Jagannatha Centre for Art and Culture (JCAC), Mysuru, hosted a soulful evening of classical dance on Apr. 8, as part of its weekly cultural series, Kala Saptami.

The event celebrated the illustrious career of Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee and legendary Bharatanatyam exponent Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy.

The evening’s highlight was a thematic presentation titled “AMMA — An Untold Tale,” performed by Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy herself. Through her signature precision and emotive storytelling, she captivated the audience at the Vedika audiorium, bringing to life a narrative that resonated with the spiritual and cultural depth of Mysuru.

The performance was followed by a solemn felicitation ceremony acknowledging Dr. Doraswamy’s invaluable contributions to the world of classical dance.

Dr. M. Jagannath Shenoy, Chairperson of JCAC, presided. MLA G.T. Devegowda and Dr. Tulasi Ramachandra, Director, Nrutyalaya Trust, Mysuru, were the chief guests.

In his address, Devegowda lauded Dr. Doraswamy’s lifelong dedication to arts. Highlighting her immense stature in the world of Indian classical dance, the MLA formally suggested recommending her name for the prestigious Padma awards, noting that such a recognition would be a fitting tribute to her decades of artistic excellence and service to culture.

The event drew a packed house of art enthusiasts and students, further solidifying JCAC’s commitment to providing a platform for pure forms of traditional arts. Kala Saptami continues its mission of celebrating culture every Wednesday at Jagannatha Centre for Art and Culture, Vijayanagar 1st Stage.
