Mandya / Mysuru: Thanks to copious rains in the catchment areas in Kodagu, water level at the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam in Mandya is reaching the 100 feet mark. According to the statistics provided by Cauvery Neeravari Nigama Limited (CNNL), water level this morning stood at 99.65 feet as against a maximum level of 124.80 feet.
The Live Capacity (usable or potable water) of the Dam as on this morning stands at 14,159 Million Cubic Feet and the Gross Capacity (usable plus silt-mixed water) stands at 22,538 Million Cubic Feet. The dam has recorded an inflow of 12,233 cusecs and an outflow of 8,090 cusecs. Last year, on Sept. 3, the dam recorded 93.24 feet water with Live Capacity of 9,583 Million Cubic Feet and Gross Capacity of 17,962 Million Cubic Feet. Last year, there was an inflow of 3,534 cusecs and an outflow of 1,835 cusecs.
According to statistics, over the last 10 days, there has been an increase of 10 ft. in KRS and yesterday afternoon, the water level stood at 99.45 ft. As of now, there is about 23 tmcft (Thousand Million Cubic Feet) water in the dam that can store up to 49.452 tmcft of water. Last year during the first week of September, there was 17.66 tmcft of water.
The reservoir level might touch 100 ft. mark by this evening and there are favourable chances. It has been raining in South Karnataka including Kodagu, Hassan, Mysuru and Mandya, say CNNL officials.
Meteorological Centre, Bengaluru and Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) have predicted rains for the next four or five days, especially during afternoon. It will be moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thundershowers.
“Clouds from Bay of Bengal have descended with heavy moisture. Clouds are moving from Rayalaseema region in Telangana to south of Tamil Nadu and passing through the region leading to this weather. For the next four days, it might rain during morning or afternoon also. Though the moisture content may vary, the weather condition will remain moist for the next four to five days,” said an officer from KSNDMC.
