Order creates a condition where balance is established by bringing back everything into the ‘right’ position. The creation of order also enables life force to flow evenly and smoothly. To establish order, we need to use the objects, which are around as tools.  You might have come across houses wherein the people would have just moved in and you would find bunch of boxes scattered about, sofas temporarily positioned — in other words, no order yet established. This is an example highlighting the importance of this simple but universal principle.

Practiced for more than 3,000 years in China, helping building up the most appropriate environment for harmonious life, the art of Feng Shui is the art of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with your environment and attract the positive forces into your home.

Observations are the key to good Feng Shui so one must practice the skill to look around and get to know the ‘feel’ of the place of dwelling and the immediate surroundings. After all before the theory of relativity, discovery of bacteria, implementation of tracking weather systems, invention of compass people used observation to explain the world around so getting to know your place of dwelling would give you an insight into what is happening in your life. Hence, creating a balance and harmony ensures that the building draws in good energy and attracts prosperity.

In the science of Feng Shui, the interaction of the five elements represents the movement of the energy — Chi.  Each element has its own energy and thus its interaction with its immediate surroundings is checked for.  For example in a home, one would look for orientations and positions of furniture, plants, water, lights, fire and metal objects too. Feng Shui predominantly deals with technique of balancing and seeking harmony in a space. Everything has to be balanced and this was based on the Chinese belief that two opposing forces exist within every living thing, which lead to the evolution of the Yin and the Yang.

As Feng Shui focus is on energy levels and alignment of the immediate environment aligning few basic things at home could give you the desired benefit.

  • Periodic re-painting and re-aligning of furniture, moving the cupboards ensure that the stagnation is pushed out.
  • Areas like the terrace, balcony and the canopies need to be cleaned to take away old energy and bring in fresh lease of life.
  • Avoid blocking view to windows and doors.
  • Enhance ‘dead alcoves,’ niches, corridors, corners, and highlight them effectively through lighting or artefacts and décor.
  • Wood represents growth and Feng Shui recommends adding Wood energy to the right side of your home or at the East of your home to bring in new opportunities and growth.

With a positive frame of mind and the seed of the happiness within us, one could generate a lot more peaceful and conducive environment which strengthens the Feng Shui of the place of dwelling.
