Mysuru: A leopard killed a pet dog on the city outskirts last night. The incident occurred at Gayathri Layout.
According to the residents of the area, the feline entered the compound of the house owned by one Puttaswamy late in the night and attacked the pet dog. Hearing the howling sound of the dog, Puttaswamy and his family members opened the doors late last night only to see the leopard biting their pet.
Family members said that the leopard had already bitten the dog’s stomach and they could not do much to save the dog. Seeing human beings, the leopard, however, left the place in the dark. Puttaswamy said that they had waited for some time after the leopard left the place and by the time the dog was dead.
Residents said that the leopard could have come from the Chamundi Hill and it had attacked several stray dogs. This is for the first time it jumped a compound wall to attack Puttaswamy’s pet dog, they said.
They alleged that they had complained to the Forest Department many times but the Department had not taken any action.
