Mysuru: A leopard was trapped early this morning in one of the four cages placed by the Forest Department outside Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) in city outskirts, stated a press release from the DCF Office.
Residents living in the locality heaved a sigh of relief as the leopard, which had been spotted in the residential area for the past few months, was finally captured.
A couple of weeks ago, CCTV cameras installed in BRBNMPL premises had captured the movement of a leopard, following which the RBI authorities called the Leopard Task Force (LTF) Control Room and also visited the Forest Department’s Regional Office and lodged a complaint.
Following the complaint, a team of 30 Forest personnel including Range Forest Officers, Deputy Range Forest Officers and LTF staff, under the guidance of senior officials conducted combing operations and had placed cattle pen cages in and around BRBNMPL premises.
After conducting operations for about 20 days, the leopard walked into the cage placed outside BRBNMPL premises at about 4 am today and got trapped, much to the relief of Forest personnel.
The wild big cat will be shifted to Aranya Bhavan in city, where it will be examined by the veterinarian and further action will be initiated.
