Let branding of Nandini products be in Kannada: KDA Chief

August 26, 2020

Bengaluru: Kannada Development Authority (KDA) Chairman T.S. Nagabharana said that Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), which has a variety of milk products and by-products, should act as a Kannada Ambassador by printing the names of all its products in regional language.

Speaking at a online meeting to review implementation of Kannada in KMF here on Tuesday, he said that the products were sold across the globe and having Kannada on them was like promoting Kannada language everywhere. In fact, KMF has over 130 products which were being exported all over the world. Every product should be given unique name in Kannada to popularise it. Nagabharana said, it has come to his notice that the names of several Nandini outlets were in English. One of the products had been named ‘Chakki Laadu’, a non-Kannada word and it had been reported in media. Was it right to work as a brand for English when the Federation has been a lifeline of lakhs of farmers. Already, the Authority had written a letter to the Federation Head seeking clarification.

The Chairman said that the Federation has empowered thousands of farmers but the websites of all district Milk Unions were in English. As per the State Government’s direction, those websites should be in Kannada at the earliest, he added.

KMF Managing Director B.C. Satish said that strict instruction would be given to all concerned to compulsorily use Kannada on its products. Besides, all the districts Milk Union websites would be converted into Kannada soon.

E-Governance adviser to the CM Belur Sudarshan, KDA Member Lohit Chakratheertha, KDA Secretary Dr. K. Muralidhar, KDA Chairman’s Personal Secretary Dr. Veerashetty, Kannada activist Arun Javagal, KMF Director (Administration) Dr. C.N. Ramesh, Additional Director M.S. Suhail and Web Portal Planning Officer Satish attended the meeting.
