Manusmriti still alive in different forms: Seer

November 25, 2018

Mysuru: Alleging that Manuvadis have kept alive ‘Manusmriti’ in the name of religion, caste, traditions etc., Sri Urilinga Peddi Mutt Seer Sri Jnanaprakash Swamiji has regretted the tendency to gain control over lower strata of the society through manipulative politics.

He was speaking after releasing writer Gangaram Chandala’s work titled ‘Prasthuta-Aprasthuta (Samvidhana-Manusmriti: Taulanika Adhyayana)’ at a programme organised by Samaikya Publications at B.M. Shri auditorium in Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS) premises, Manasagangotri, recently.

Regretting that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar-scripted Constitution is being used only for referring to words such as brotherhood, equality, social justice, harmony and the like, the Seer alleged that efforts were on to introduce Manu’s ideologies across the country.

Asserting that ‘Manusmiriti’ was full of inequality, dirt, mantras, Veda-Upanishads etc., he said that Ambedkar’s Constitution advocates human values, democratic principles and equality.

Criticising the Pejawar Mutt Seer for his alleged remarks that following age-old traditions was more important than the Constitution, Sri Jnanaprakash Swamiji said that the 2019 Lok Sabha election would be a battle between ‘Manusmriti’ and Dr. Ambedkar’s Indian Constitution.

KIKS Director Prof. Neelagiri N. Talwar, activist N. Diwakar, author Gangaram Chandala, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Studies Centre faculty T. Padmashri and others were present.
