MCC fails to collect tax from over 100 Government Offices

August 1, 2017

Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has failed to collect annual service tax from over 100 Government offices. This startling revelation came to light from a Corporator during the MCC Council Meeting held at MCC office here yesterday.

It was said that out of 165 Government offices in the MCC limits, the tax is not recovered from 103 offices. Corporator H.N. Srikantaiah and others urged the officials to submit a report on failure to collect the tax.

Many Corporators alleged that the Government offices had increased in number of late with a lot of hostels coming up and the figure of 165 sounds irrelevant, they remarked.

Mayor M.J. Ravikumar said that a meeting of all Zonal Assistant Commissioners and Revenue Officers has been conducted and instructed to collect service tax from all Government offices.

Briefing the meeting, MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha said that hitherto tax was collected based only on self-assesment scheme. He added that it was now being collected after spot verification of the declaration which had increased the revenue collection by Rs. 30 crore.

Despite opposition by a few Corporators, many pending works were given the approval in the meeting.

Former Mayor Ayub Khan expressed opposition on a few works worth Rs. 1.41 crore in a few Wards citing that the development should not be confined to only a few Wards.

The Council approved the development works at Central Service Reservoir in Vijayanagar.

HOLD Meeting at 11 am

Corporators contended that holding the Council Meeting at 3 pm was too late as they do not get sufficient time to discuss on important issues and hence, they requested the Mayor to convene the meeting at 11 am. The Mayor assured to comply with the request from next month.
