Mysuru: MCDCC (Mysore & Chamarajanagar District Co-operative Central) Bank President S. Chandrashekar, who had quit the Congress party just last month (had joined on Mar.9) to join BJP, has returned to the party fold.
He rejoined the party in the presence of City Congress President R. Murthy and other leaders at his residence in Dattagalli here this morning.
Since Chief Minister Siddharamaiah was busy canvassing, he was not able to come, said a party source.
Asked why he returned to the party when he had joined BJP in the presence of its State President B.S. Yeddyurappa, with a lot of hope, Chandrashekar said that he was blinded by the allurement of the BJP leaders.
“It was a very suffocating atmosphere in the party. As the MCDCC Bank President I had disbursed Rs.630 crore to the people and I want the benefit of this to go to all the Congress candidates and Chief Minister Siddharamaiah who has done so much to the people of the State.”
On whether he was offered a ticket by BJP, he said, the leaders had promised a ticket for him to contest from N.R. Constituency. But they went back on their promise and hence he decided that it was not the place for him.
City Congress President R. Murthy, welcoming back Chandrashekar to the party, said that it was due to the efforts of a few leaders like former Chamundeshwari Constituency MLA M. Satyanarayan that Chandrashekar returned to the Congress. Former Corporator Shivanna, Zilla Panchayat former President Koorgalli Mahadev and others were present.
