Menace of using mobile phone while riding or driving

January 30, 2024

Sir,

There is a widespread and alarming trend of individuals using mobile phones while riding or driving two and four-wheelers. It is disheartening to observe that approximately three out of every five riders engage in this dangerous behaviour. They are often seen speaking loudly on their mobile phones while riding, posing a significant risk to themselves and others on the road.

This concerning practice is particularly prevalent at Hebbal Second Stage, especially along Choultry Road and Double Road near Cauvery Circle. Furthermore, it has come to my notice that even minors are observed riding two-wheelers with pillion riders. It appears that the lack of strict enforcement and checks for traffic violations has emboldened people, as they no longer fear being caught by the Traffic Police.

Additionally, there is a dangerous trend of two-wheeler riders transporting wooden logs, doors and window glasses horizontally. This poses a severe risk as it may result in accidents and harm other riders if these individuals attempt to overtake.

I kindly request the urgent intervention of the Police in addressing these issues. It is imperative to conduct frequent checks, preferably at least twice a week, to curb these menaces. Moreover, imposing hefty fines for violations will serve as a deterrent and help ensure the safety of all road users.
