Mysuru: Former KSOU Vice-Chancellor Dr. N.S. Ramegowda said that higher education is undergoing a transformation in the State with more number of University affiliated Educational Institutions set to become autonomous in the next 10 years. He was speaking after inaugurating the programme organised by M.K. Ramaswamy Sneha Balaga to honour Prof. M.K. Ramaswamy, a former Principal of Maharaja’s PU College and Science writer, at Institution of Engineers-India (IEI) on JLB Road in city recently.
Noting that in the past there were only a few State-run Universities, Prof. Ramegowda said, now things are changing fast, with several private and deemed Universities coming up, thus expanding the scope of higher education.
“The scenario and scope of higher education is changing with the springing up of private Universities, which should be noticed by the teaching faculty and all others. At present, there are more than 450 State-run Universities, with over 50,000 colleges affiliated to them. Currently, the Universities can be classified under three categories — Government, Private and Deemed, and in the next 10 years, most of the University affiliated colleges may disappear,” he observed.
Recalling the services of Prof. Ramaswamy, he said that Prof. Ramaswamy is one of the few teachers who remain forever etched in the minds of students, for his teaching skills and mastery of the subject.
Marking his 75th birthday, Prof. M.K. Ramaswamy and his wife Prameela were felicitated on the occasion.
Former MLC Marithibbegowda presided. Retired DPUE B.S. Sridhar Raje Urs delivered the felicitation address. Former Principals Dr. Honnaiah, S. Chidambara and others were present.
