Mysuru: The travel time between Mysuru and Bengaluru has been reduced from yesterday after some existing trains on the route being partially classified as Superfast.
Some of the trains which have been partially classified as Superfast are Mysuru-Mayiladuthurai Express (Daily) which will depart Mysuru at 4.15 pm and reach Bengaluru at 6.45 pm; Mysuru-Yeswanthpur Express (Daily) which will leave Mysuru Railway Station at 8.25 am and reach Bengaluru at 10.55 am; Kannur-Karwar Express (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) will leave Mysuru at 5.30 am and reach Bengaluru at 8 am and Mysuru- Sainagar Shiradi Express (Monday) will leave Mysuru at 5.30 am and reach Bengaluru at 8 am.
In the reverse direction, the Mayiladuthurai-Mysuru Express will leave Bengaluru at 6 am and reach Mysuru at 8.30 am; Yeswanthpur-Mysuru Express will leave Bengaluru at 1.30 pm and reach Mysuru at 4 pm; Bengaluru-Kannur/Karwar Express (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday) will leave Bengaluru at 8.30 pm and reach Mysuru at 11 pm and the Sainagar Shiradi-Mysuru Express (Thursday) will leave Bengaluru at 3.30 am and reach Mysuru at 6 am.
As the above trains are partially classified as Superfast Service on Bengaluru-Mysuru-Bengaluru Section, passengers are required to pay the Superfast charge of Rs.15 per head in addition to the normal fare before the commencement of the journey. Superfast surcharge will not be collected inside the trains and passengers travelling on normal express fare will have to pay the Superfast surcharge of Rs.15 plus the higher excess charge of Rs.250.
Meanwhile sources said that the works on laying new tracks for about 40 kilometers is still pending and all trains would travel at normal speed on this stretch. Once the works are completed, the speed of all the trains would increase, sources added.
Uma, a teacher and Manjunath, an employee of Vikasa Soudha, who arrived in a Superfast train to City Railway Station this morning, said that the train reached 20 minutes early and added that this should not be a one-day affair but should be maintained daily which would help a lot of daily commuters like them.
Distance from Bengaluru to Mysuru is 145 kms. This distance should be covered by a train in less than 60 minutes. If a train taking 2:30 hours to travel this distance is called superfast, what will you call a train that travels 140 kmph? It is a shame that this commute still takes such a long time.
Since from my childhood i was hearing that bangalore – mysore will have two tracks, now I am 46 still 40km of the track to be laid and more over we have to pay extra 15rupee for super fast express which also reach the distance 145km in 2.30 hours where normal train also reach same time sometimes.
We are docile people and never demand any thing. It is a shame to treat Mysore Bangalore coverage in a snail phase. Any where else it would have been a aggressive demand.
It is a money making idea of the railways. You fleece the innocent passenger by naming it superfast. Will the railways refund extra charge money collected in case of default in reaching the destination?
The public should raise their voice to speed up this destination as a next step by 2 hours which is immediate possible. Railways should rationalise in this direction.
@siddique, The tracks are already doubled but SWR is in the process of track renewal of 40 kms. But still with electrification and doubling completed, Shatabdi should take only 11/2 hours and other express trains 2 hours and passenger 2 1/2 hours. Otherwise, it is revenue earning by simply calling it super fast and collecting extra fares!!
Before doubleding track SWR told all the express trains 2 hours reach to Mysore to Bangalore now they telling super fast 2:30 hours there is no use of super fast
Privatise some railway routes including Bangalore Mysore route.
It’s one more way of fare increase by railways by branding trains as super fast.

This is truly fooling the people which is already available service, paying extra to the same. It is money blandder…
It is only money earning plan. No use for passengers, they are declaring passenger train to express trains & express trains to super fast trains, timings are only in papers not actual.
In railway station parking charges are heavy & they looting public money. Parking charges and timings are unfair , upto 1 hr Rs.10, upto 5 hrs RS.15, then 5hrs 1 minute RS 25, where is justification, no shelter to park only open area.
Concerned persons please look into the matter & do the needful to public.whatever you are doing should be useful to both end.
It’s very bad to charge extra Rs. 15.
If they really want to charge it, first they should speed up the train between this route. Or else this 15 rupees also cost more to the people those who reach their destination very late than their expectations. Moreover Indian Railways itself doesn’t have time sense, this statement was highlighted by passengers who travel in the route of Bangalore to Mysore. If they really want to increase the fare please instruct all the trains to maintain the schedule please.

Including halts even if trains maintain the avg speed, it can impact on so many working class who can travel to Bangalore from Mysore, Mandya and Maddur.
That 15 or 30 mins early can mean a lot to many officials and all the tourists which benefits planning their day accordingly instead of dwelling and cursing the nation for their plight.
Nothing will change except the rail fair. It is only to fleece the passenger with the upgraded name….super fast.. trick. In Mumbai even a local dmu takes exactly an hour to finish a journey of 65 k.m with four to five stops in between. How can they justify the hike?..
It’s foolish to collect additional charges, they were not finished full 100 % work & now also they were colleting express charges. If it will privatisation all situations & issues will resolve , for that we are ready to pay extra money to those people. Because of work efficiently we are ready to pay extra & not bothering money , our time is our money & reach safely in Time all through the years.

‘Superfast’ tag is a joke by IR. 15 years ago, with single track 16205/06 Tippu express (which was not made a superfast back then) used to take 2.5 hrs between the two cities – sometimes even earlier. After it was tagged as superfast (12613/14) it started running late. Things have certainly deteriorated, and resources are not being put to optimal use.
