Mysuru: Come February, the City will get a swanky Police Commissioner’s Office on Mirza Road in Nazarbad.

The construction work is almost completed and workers are giving final touches. The building is likely to cater to the needs of the Mysore City Police for the next 25 years.

Once the new Police Commissioner’s Office is completed, the old office, also at Nazarbad, will be handed back to the Mysore Police Band from whom the building was taken.

Construction works of the new building began in June 2014 at a cost of Rs. 16.76 crore and Karnataka Police Housing Corporation is in-charge of the construction. The actual works have been handed over to Bengaluru-based Krishna Shelter that is developing the infrastructure.

The building, being constructed on the lines of the famed Lalitha Mahal Palace, will have a built area of 45,000 square feet and each floor has 15,000 square feet. It has lower ground floor, upper ground floor and the first floor.

There are nine domes that reflect the heritage character of Mysuru city and the central big dome will have a Kalasha    on the top.

Contractors told Star of Mysore that the construction will be completed by the first or second week of February and the building will add to the list of artistic buildings in Mysuru.

Colouring has been planned in such a way that they are not jarring. White and grey paints have been used to reflect the royal character.  Once completed, the new Commissioner’s Office will house the offices of City Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner of Police Law and Order and DCP (Crime and Traffic) City Special Branch, Foreigners’ Registration Office, Special Branch, City Crime Records Bureau, Anti-Sabotage Units, Control Room and other strategic units.

The Automated Traffic Enforcement Centre is also expected to function in the new building, which is likely to have a control room to monitor CCTVs installed at strategic locations.

The building where the office currently functions had been built for the Police Band. Smaller blocks of buildings were added around the existing office in recent years to put up more departments and facilities. Despite this, space constraints could not be overcome and a bigger office space was required.
