Mysuru Zoo tigress ‘Thayamma’ dies

Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru Zoo’s tigress ‘Thayamma,’ who had been suffering from illness, passed away early yesterday morning, according to Zoo Executive Director P. Anusha.

Thayamma was 4 years and 10 months old. She was rescued as a two-month-old cub from the Bandipur Tiger Reserve on March 28, 2021 and brought to Mysuru Zoo, where she was raised with care and affection by the Zoo staff.

About ten days ago, Thayamma fell ill and stopped consuming food. Diagnosed with a blood cell disorder, she was placed under special medical care from Dec. 17. Despite intensive treatment, she did not respond and succumbed at 3.45 am yesterday.

Her body was cremated as per the protocol.

Zoo staff, who had nurtured her since infancy, expressed deep sorrow at her demise.
