Mysuru: “Nagarapanchami will be celebrated as Basavapanchami tomorrow by providing milk to undernourished people instead of pouring it on anthills,” said former Mayor Purushotham.
Addressing a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavan here yesterday, Purushotham said that snakes were carnivores and do not drink milk and added that anthills were not the habitat of snakes. He pointed out that even if a snake stays in an anthill, pouring milk on it would go waste and may just attract ants. Hence, he appealed people not to waste milk on anthills but instead provide that to undernourished people.
Purushotham said that to create awareness among people, Nagarapanchami would be celebrated as Basavapanchami as Basavanna too had advised people not to waste milk by pouring on anthills and the great Social Reformer passed away on Nagarapanchami day. He further said that on that day, milk would be distributed in all taluks to undernourished people.
Manava Bandutva Vedike District Convenor M. Lokesh, Mysuru Taluk Convenor Murudagalli Mahadeva and others were present during the press meet.
