Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Jayanti to be celebrated in a meaningful manner: DC

Mysore/Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner Dr. K.V. Rajendra said that the Jayanti of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, who has made his own contributions for planned development of Mysuru, should be celebrated in a purposeful manner on June 4.

Presiding over a preparatory meeting at his office here on May 30, Dr. Rajendra said that Nalwadi Jayanti is celebrated on June 4 every year.

Noting that the Jayanti celebration was limited to Mysuru district, he said this year, it has been decided to celebrate at the State-level in Mandya also. However, the Jayanti will be celebrated at the district-level in Mysuru, he added.

Highlighting the contributions of Nalwadi, the DC said that it was he who built KRS Dam which is now providing water to scores of families in Mysuru and other cities, besides being the lifeline of the farming community in old Mysuru region.

He further said that a grand procession will be taken out from the Mysore Palace premises to  Kalamandira on Hunsur road, where the stage programme would take place. The stage programme will feature special lectures, he added.

The community leaders, who spoke at the meeting, wanted a seminar to educate the people on the principles and life of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and Rani Kemparajammanni. They also wanted the authorities to screen the documentary featuring the history of the erstwhile Mysore rulers and to declare a public holiday for the Jayanti.

They further demanded that a chapter on Nalwadi be included in school textbooks.

 ZP CEO K.M. Gayathri, DDPI Ramachandra Raje Urs, Kannada and Culture Assistant Director Dr. M.D. Sudarshan, Information and Public Relations Assistant Director T.K. Harish Kumar and others were present.
