‘Namma Basava Jayanti’ from tomorrow

Mysuru: City’s Basava Balagagala Okkuta, in association with Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva-Lingayat Mahasabha will be organising a two-day ‘Namma Basava Jayanti-2025’ at Kalamandira on Hunsur Road on May 24 and 25.

Announcing this at a press meet yesterday, Programme Committee President B.K. Nagaraj Byathahalli said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the event at 11 am on May 24.

Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji will grace the occasion. District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa will preside. Animal Husbandry Minister K. Venkatesh will garland the bust of Basaveshwara.

Hosamutt Seer Chidananda Swamiji will hoist the flag at Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Circle at 8 am. MLA H.M. Ganesh Prasad will launch the procession from Basaveshwara statue to Kalamandira in the presence of Kundur Mutt Seer Sri Sharatchandra Swamiji and Kuderu Mutt Seer Sri Gurushantha Swamiji.

MLA G.T. Devegowda, Deputy Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy, MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif, Additional DC P. Shivaraj, KSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sharanappa V. Halse and others will take part.

At 4.30 pm, former Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa will inaugurate the cultural programmes. Ganabharathi Joint Director Dr. Kripa Phadke will be the chief guest.

On May 25, the programme will begin with mass Vachana Gayana, following which Horticulture Minister S.S. Mallikarjun will inaugurate the cultural programmes. MP Yaduveer Wadiyar will preside. Akhila Bharat Veerashaiva-Lingayat Mahasabha National Women’s Unit President Veena Kashappanavar and State President Muktamba will be the chief guest. There will be various sessions on both days.

The valedictory will take place at 4.30 pm, during which Salur Brihanmutt Seer Dr. Shantamaallikarjuna Swamiji will release Dr. Mahendramurthy edited work Samskrutika Nayaka Jagajyothi Basaveshwararu. Karnataka Lokayukta B.S. Patil, State BJP Chief B.Y. Vijayendra, Forest Minister Eswhar Khandre, MP Sunil Bose, former IPS officer Shankar Bidari and former MLA Ashok Kheny will be present.
