University of Mysore, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research and Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering

Mysore/Mysuru: Educational institutions of Mysuru have excelled in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)-2022. The rankings were announced by the Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan on July 15.

NIRF outlines a methodology to rank institutions and the methodology draws from the overall recommendations and broad understanding arrived at by a core committee set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to identify the broad parameters for ranking various Universities and institutions.

The parameters broadly cover teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity and perception. The institutions that have fared well in Mysuru are the University of Mysore, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research and Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering.

The JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER) has retained its position at 34th place in the rankings among 1,876 Universities in India and has retained the ‘Top 50 position’ for the seventh consecutive year. The two constituent colleges of JSS AHER, that is, JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty and JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru are in the top 10 in India and stand at 6th and 8th place, out of 401 entries in the country, respectively.

JSS Dental College & Hospital has been placed at 12th place out of 142 entries, whereas JSS Medical College, figures at 34th rank, out of 151 entries among the Medical Colleges in the country. Thus, JSS AHER is ranked at 60th place in the Overall category out of a total of 7,254 entries in India.

The University is striving hard in academics, research, graduation outcome, perception and outreach to achieve more in the coming years.

VVCE

Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) has been ranked among the best engineering colleges in  NIRF ranking. VVCE has been ranked among the list of top 300 engineering colleges in the country.

“It is a matter of pride that our college has got a place in the first 300 places among about 3,500 technical colleges in the country,” said Principal Dr. B. Sadashive Gowda in a press release. This is undoubtedly a remarkable institution as NIRF decides the ranking based on teaching and learning processes, research, entrepreneurial skills and qualities, publications, funding and many more aspects, he added.

University of Mysore

The University of Mysore was ranked 33rd among the Varsities in the country and has an overall ranking of 54  among institutions of higher education as per the NIRF ranking for 2022. This is a slide from the 19th position among the Varsities and an overall rank of 34 held during 2021.

UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, while congratulating the Varsity staff for their efforts in helping the University achieve the rank, said that the University faced a severe shortage of staff.

As against a sanctioned strength of 667 teaching staff, the University has only 272 posts that have been filled up and this has led to an increase in the student-teacher ratio now pegged at 1:25. This was also the reason for the Varsity’s  decline in the NAAC rating as well, the VC said.

“In fact, this is a good performance considering the falling number of permanent faculty members. With each passing year, the number of permanent staff is declining and there is a freeze on recruitment,” he added.
