Mangaluru: Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO), a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University), will start the four-year BA (Hons) in Media & Communication, beginning this academic year.
NICO is the first in Dakshina Kannada to begin this programme which is in tune with the requirements of the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP).
Established in 2012, for the past nine years NICO has been offering BA & MA in Mass Communication & Journalism.
A healthy blend of theory and practice, the curriculum of the BA (Honours) is in keeping with industry requirements and includes subjects like Animation, Social Media Marketing, Short Film-making, Photography, Introduction to VFX, Data Journalism, Advertising and Event Management, among several others.
Divided into 8 semesters, it also offers Value Added Courses like Acting Theory & Practice and Soft Skills & Resume Writing in the third and sixth semesters and Electives like Data Journalism, Technical Writing and Advanced Animation, UI/UX Design in the seventh and eighth semesters. The curriculum is designed in such a way that if a student wants to exit after three years, he/she can do that and would still be introduced to different subjects under Media & Communication.
