Bengaluru: Even as the State BJP is yet to come out of the shock of the humiliating defeat in the Assembly polls, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi said that the Opposition Leader will be picked in three days to take on the Congress Government in Karnataka.
Speaking to presspersons in New Delhi on Tuesday, Joshi said that the Opposition Leader should have been picked earlier. But as the Union Government is focused on the Odisha train accident, there has been a delay in the selection of the Opposition Leader.
Pointing out that there are many contenders in the BJP for the Opposition Leader job, he said that former CM Basavaraj Bommai and firebrand MLA from Vijayapura Basanagouda Patil Yatnal are in the race, among others.
Replying to a question on change of State Party President Nalin Kumar Kateel following the poll rout, Joshi said the Party leadership will take an appropriate decision at the right time.
Pointing out that Kateel’s tenure had expired last August, he said he was continued due to polls. The BJP Central leadership will announce the leader of the Opposition much before CM Siddharamaiah is to present the State Budget on July 7, he added.
