‘Parent Craft’ programme held at Columbia Asia Hospital

July 14, 2019

Mysuru: “Being active during pregnancy is going to improve the health of baby and mother, it also avoids other health related complications,” said Dr. K. Veena, Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Columbia Asia Hospital, Mysuru.

She was speaking at the ‘Parent Craft’ — an educative awareness programme for pregnant women and their family members — organised by Columbia Asia Hospital at its premises here recently and said that the average weight gain during pregnancy should be between 8 kg and 12 kg.

If they put on more weight there are chances of having back pain and may also end up having diabetes, hypertension and baby gaining more weight due to which the chances of caesarean delivery are more, said Dr. Veena and added inactiveness during pregnancy may worsen the muscles and more problem to baby.

She also mentioned that during pregnancy, most of them want to know about their diet and what type of exercise they can do, how much weight they should gain and when it comes to labour what exactly is the process, how they can make it more comfortable and after delivery how to look after the new-born baby.

Parent Craft, an exclusive programme hosted by Columbia Asia Hospital, is an educative and informative session which covered all the aspects of maternity about pre and post natal care in a unique interactive session which involved doctor interaction, live recipes for a healthy diet, exercises demo for mothers-to-be and live healthy food counters, and baby shower programme. All the participants were also given educative materials.
