Mysuru: To further strengthen the bond between the Police and public, a people-friendly beat Police system has been introduced. The beat Police are going to visit each house in the city and respond to people’s problems. Mysuru City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmaneswara Rao announced the new beat system yesterday.

This beat system is unique and hence the cooperation of the public is sought to implement it successfully, said Dr. Rao. The responsibilities that the Police have, has been distributed in a systematic way thus ensuring that the Police are in touch with the public all the time.

The Police Stations under the zonal limits in the city have been equally divided for the beat system and the Head Constables and the Constables will be assigned their areas.

The residents can contact the respective beat Constables for addressing their problems. Right now, 1313 beat zones have been set up and the Police of the respective Police Station limits given the responsibility. However, ASI and other higher officers will oversee their work.

The beats have been allocated for a year and after one year, it will be reassigned, said Dr. Rao.

The Police assigned with the beat responsibility will act as a bridge between the Department and the public. Separate beat books printed for this purpose contains all the details regarding the work of the Police.

The beat Police will have to visit every house coming under their limits introduce themselves, provide them the telephone numbers of the Department and keep in constant touch, he said.

The beat Police with the help of the citizens will form committees and hold meetings every month and try to resolve the issues. The Constables would be provided with identity cards and maps of their assigned areas to prevent imposters from misleading the public, and the identity of the beat Constables will be put up in each jurisdictional Police Stations.

They will also collect the details of well-known persons, leaders of various religions and castes, those owning gun licenses, bar/wine-shop, restaurants, important public buildings, government offices, kalyan mantaps, lakes, schools and colleges.

They will also keep an eye on anti-social elements, goondas, rowdy-sheeters and collect information secretly on their activities and maintain records.

Each Constable will be made accountable for nearly 900 to 950 persons or 150 to 200 families, said Dr. Rao.
