Mysuru: To exhibit and create awareness among people on biodiversity richness of lakes, Wild Mysuru, had organised a photography exhibition with the theme Life in Kukkarahalli Kere this morning at Kukkarahalli Lake.
Over 180 photographs of biodiversity at the Lake clicked by 49 nature enthusiasts and Wild Mysuru were on display at the expo which was open to the public from 7 am to 10 am and again from 4 pm to 6 pm.
Inaugurating the expo by planting a sapling, University of Mysore (UoM) Registrar Dr. Lingaraj Gandhi observed that Kukkarahalli Lake was a pride of UoM. He recalled that Kukkarahalli Lake was an inspiring location for many poets including Kuvempu. The Lake also is a source of enthusiasm for environmentalists, he added.
The Registrar showed his concern for conserving the ecology of the Lake by agreeing to plant trees wherever possible. He was concerned about the noise created by public and also number of footfalls in the lake premises. Seeing a group of people, who were making loud noise at the Lake premises, Prof. Gandhi said that the noise might drive away birds that roost at the Lake.
He advised visitors at the expo not to just look at the photos but study the ecosystem in depth and help conserve the iconic water body.
