Mysore/Mysuru: The 414th Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara that concluded yesterday has brought to fore the authorities’ failure to walk the talk, when it comes to curbing plastic menace to the full.

Even as the District Administration had left no stone unturned in the run up to Dasara festival by declaring Chamundi Hill as ‘Plastic Free’ by introducing stringent measures targeting shopkeepers and vendors alike, several  tonnes of garbage produced by lakhs of tourists and visitors to the city to watch Jumboo Savari is topped by single use plastic.

Pourakarmikas of Mysuru City Corporation spread in different teams this morning were seen clearing the garbage on Raja Marga that forms Jumboo Savari route from Palace to Bannimantap via Chamaraja Wadiyar Circle, KR Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road, Government Ayurveda Hospital Circle, Bamboo Bazaar and Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Circle.

Vendors, who did brisk sales of eatables, both packed and non-packed food items, also have to be blamed, for adding to the plastic menace.

Navarathri festivities that unfolded on Oct. 15 at Chamundi Hill this year has produced enormous amount of garbage in a short span of 10 days.
