Problems with Aadhaar Updation

February 21, 2019

Sir,

This is with reference to the ongoing discussion with respect to the problems with Aadhaar updation. The Aadhaar updation application form is available online at UIDAI website. However, this form is not accepted at the Aadhaar updation centres, more so at the Post Offices.

Even when one fills in the form with all the details, the officials at the counter insist on filling in the same details again in the forms issued by them. The only additional item appearing in their application form is a serial number. One is left to wonder as to who introduces such rules and process steps which are nothing but redundant.

A lot of time can be saved if the applicant fills in the form which can be easily downloaded from UIDAI website. The situation is worse for rural and illiterate applicants who find it difficult to find someone who can help them filling the form at the counter on the spot.

The other aspect is with respect to transliteration of the entry in English to Kannada. The transliteration software does not work properly most of the times and we end up with a Kannada entry which does not make sense.

To add to the confusion, the operator at the counter is not aware of how to correct and get the proper translation in Kannada. This leads to a lot of time being spent per applicant which can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 45 minutes. No wonder most of these Aadhaar centres are unable to process more than 20-25 applicants per day.

Adding to the pain, the fee charged at these centres are arbitrary. While there are clear guidelines on UIDAI website on the fee to be charged, these centres charge Rs. 50 even for mobile phone updation. And as usual there is no receipt issued, so one can imagine where this money is going !

Hope the authorities concerned will look into these problems and streamline the process.
