Rare complex liver surgery performed at Cauvery Hospital

September 15, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: A rare complex liver surgery was successfully performed on a 65-year-old man at Cauvery Cancer Centre (CCC) in city recently.

Chickkamuddenayaka, the patient with high jaundice, severe itching with progressive weight loss, after visiting multiple hospitals came to Cauvery Cancer Centre where he was later diagnosed with Hilar Cholangio Carcinoma (a rare type of bile duct cancer stage IIIC). He was admitted at the hospital and the medical team prepared him for the surgery.

He underwent a complex liver surgery where whole tumour (bile duct cancer with left side of liver) was removed successfully. Post-operation, he was managed in ICU for two days under meticulous observation and treatment. He recovered well, his itching came down drastically, even the jaundice level started coming down and he was discharged on the seventh day after he completely recovered.

This was a complex surgery not routinely done. This was one of the few cases done in Mysuru and the whole treatment process was managed by a team of experienced doctors — Consultant Onco Surgeon Dr. M.S. Girish, Consultant Laproscopic Surgeon Dr. R.M. Aravind, Consultant  Anaesthesiologists Dr. Keshavmurthy and Dr. Harish Kumar, Chief Consultant Intensivist Dr. Vaidyanathan, Consultant Pathologist Dr. Damodar, Consultant General Physician Dr. S.P. Adarsh and teams of Operation Theatre (OT), Nursing and paramedical staff.

Hospital Chairman Dr. G.R. Chandrashekar said that Cauvery Heart & Multi-Speciality Hospital provides World Class Health Care Facilities at an affordable cost and requested the people of Mysuru to utilise the services of Cauvery Hospital in time of need.
