Mysore/Mysuru: In connection with the forthcoming International Day of Yoga-2024 with the theme ‘Yoga in Action: Youth for Nation,’ a curtain raiser event titled ‘Rashtriya Yogotsava -2024’ was organised by GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Mysuru in association with the Ministry of Ayush, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and Sri Vedavyasa Yoga Pratisthana, Mysuru on Mar. 27 at M. Govinda Rao Memorial Hall, GSSSIETW, KRS Road, Mysuru.
Rashtriya Yogotsava-2024 was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. M.A. Alwar, Professor, Maharaja’s Sanskrit College, Mysuru.
Addressing the students, Dr. Alwar stressed on the need of practicing yoga for physical and mental well-being. He also spoke about the wellness of yoga and how it has become world famous.
He urged the young generation to know the benefits of Patanjali yoga sutra to overcome anxiety and depression which has become common these days.
Dr. K. Raghavendra Pai, Secretary, Vedavyasa Yoga Pratisthana, lauded the efforts of late Maharaja of Mysore, Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar who had introduced yoga in the Mysore Palace with the assistance of Krishnamachari who taught yogasana at Jaganmohan Palace. Since then Mysore is known as the Ashtanga Yoga capital of the world, he added.
R.K. Bharath, Board member and CEO, GSSS, Mysuru, presided. Dr. Rajendra R. Patil, Professor and HoD, ECE and HoDs of various departments were present.
More than 100 students and staff of GSSS explored the ‘Mysore Yoga Tradition’ through exhibitions and also viewed advanced yoga postures.
Medals were given medals by Dr. Raghavendra Pai as a token of appreciation, according to a press release from S.S. Caveramma, Principal.
