Renaming of Princess Road: RTI activist threatens legal action

January 10, 2025

Mysuru: RTI activist Snehamayi Krishna has issued a strong warning, stating he will approach the Court if the proposal to rename Princess Road (KRS Road) after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah (as Siddaramaiah Arogya Marga) is forwarded to the Government without addressing the public’s objections and sentiments.

“The Congress followers in Mysuru are determined to rename this historic road after Siddaramaiah, against the will of public. In doing so, they are disrespecting the royal family and undermining the contributions of Wadiyar dynasty to further their selfish political agendas,” he said.

The road, currently named in the records as Princess Road in honour of Princess Krishnajammanni, has become a point of controversy. MLA K. Harishgowda has voiced his dissatisfaction, suggesting the road should be named after Siddaramaiah. He claimed that only a small stretch — from Dasappa Circle to Venkataramanaswamy Temple — was Princess Road, while the rest, up to Royal Inn Junction, is KRS Road and they would name this stretch after Siddaramaiah.

Krishna accused Harishgowda of twisting historical facts, asserting, “He is distorting heritage.” Observing the proceedings of the Mysuru City Corporation meeting, Krishna pointed out that the order was not yet final, and the proposal would require Government approval.

“There’s no reason for public to worry. However, if the proposal is sent to Government without addressing our objections and official records, we will approach the Court. We will preserve the name of the Princess and will not allow it to be renamed after Siddaramaiah, who is an accused in MUDA land grab case,” he said.
