Ring Road or Death Trap?

The silent agony of Mysuru’s stray animals

Sir,

I am writing with a heavy heart to highlight a disturbing trend on Mysuru’s Ring Road. Recently, near the Vijayanagar 4th Stage Junction, I witnessed a heart-wrenching scene: a cow was trapped under a tempo after a collision.

The animal was in extreme pain and agony, yet despite the presence of the Police and onlookers, the vehicle made it impossible to rescue it immediately.

This is not a one-off incident. Just last week, near the Bogadi Shiva Temple, another cow suddenly darted onto the road, resulting in a collision with a car. Every day, the Ring Road is littered with the carcasses of cows, dogs and pigs.

The root of this problem lies in two areas:

1. Irresponsible Ownership: Cattle owners recklessly let their livestock roam busy highways for grazing.

2. Lax Enforcement: Authorities conduct stray-catching drives only “once in a blue moon.”

I urge the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and the Traffic Police to impose heavy penalties on negligent cattle owners and conduct regular patrols. We cannot claim to be a “Heritage City” while turning a blind eye to such cruelty.
