Mysore/Mysuru: Former MLA M.K. Somashekar has called upon Congress workers to actively participate and ensure the grand success of the upcoming ‘Sadhana Samavesha’ — a convention aimed at showcasing the achievements of the Congress Government over the past two years — and the induction ceremony of new Youth Congress office-bearers.
The ‘Sadhana Samavesha’ is scheduled for July 19 at 11 am at the Maharaja’s College Grounds, while the induction ceremony of new office-bearers of the City and District Youth Congress units will take place a day earlier, on July 18 at 11 am at Indira Congress Bhavan, near the City Railway Station.
Presiding over a preparatory meeting organised by the Youth Congress Committee of Krishnaraja Assembly Constituency at Nityananda Kalyana Mantap yesterday, Somashekar stressed the importance of mobilising a large number of youth and members of the general public for both events.
“These events carry weight, especially as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, District in-Charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, along with several Cabinet colleagues, MLAs and senior Congress leaders, will undertake a three-day tour of Mysuru district from July 18 to 20,” Somashekar noted.
He also urged Youth Congress members to counter the BJP’s narrative by exposing its “real face” before society. “The Congress party, which fought for India’s freedom and has championed secularism, is being unfairly targeted by the BJP’s misinformation campaign. Congress has a legacy of inclusive development that must be highlighted,” he said.
State Youth Congress Vice- President Lavanya Yadav, City Youth Congress President Syed Abrar, General Secretary Mallesh (Malla), former Corporator M. Suneel, INTUC City President Madan Kumar and Devaraja Block Congress Committee President Sridhar were among those present.
Chamundeshwari preparatory meeting
In a similar preparatory meeting held at Indira Congress Bhavan under the leadership of District Rural Congress Committee President Dr. B.J. Vijaykumar, Congress workers from Chamundeshwari Assembly Constituency were urged to attend the Sadhana Samavesha in large numbers.

Dr. Vijaykumar revealed that during the convention, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to lay the foundation for developmental works estimated at Rs. 1,600 crore. He added that specific concerns related to Chamundeshwari Constituency would also be brought to the Chief Minister’s attention, with a request for a separate meeting to discuss local issues.
Calling for unity, Dr. Vijaykumar appealed to party leaders to shed animosity and work together for the betterment of the Constituency and the party’s strength in the region.
Among those present at the meeting were former Zilla Panchayat Presidents K. Marigowda and Koorgalli Mahadev, former ZP Members Kadakola Narayan and Rakesh Papanna, former Mayors T.B. Chikkanna, Pushpalatha Chikkanna, Modamani, former Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women Manjula Manasa, and others.
