Mysore/Mysuru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) Police have arrested a man on charges of transporting sandalwood logs.
The Police have recovered 33.600 kg sandalwood, worth over Rs. 1.5 lakh, besides seizing a mobile phone and a Bajaj Pulsar bike (KA-03-HC-5702) from him.
The accused has been identifies as 32-year-old Nawaz Shariff, a resident of Usmania Block at Kesare in city.

On Monday afternoon, when CCB Inspector Shabir Hussain and staff were patrolling on Kamanakerehundi Main Road in Old Kesare, they saw a man standing along with a bike and a sack. On seeing the Police vehicle, the man, later identified as Shariff, made a bid to flee with his vehicle, from the spot.
Acting swiftly, the Police, who surrounded Shariff, caught hold of him and upon inspecting the sack, the sandalwood logs were found inside the same.
On interrogating, the accused is said to have told Police that he had felled a sandalwood tree near Kesare Chikkere about three to four days back. On Monday he had cut the sandalwood trunk into logs to take it to his home, where he wanted to remove the bark and later sell them.
A case has been registered at Narasimharaja (NR) Police Station.
